AN Elvis impersonator from Coventry will mark the anniversary of the ‘King’s’ death by appearing in a charity concert.
Elvis, who would have been 75, died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42.
Dave Dixon, who lives in Wyken, is a full-time Elvis impersonator.
Eight years ago he gave up his job as a vending machine engineer, who confined his singing to the van, to go professional.
He now works regularly, not only in Coventry, but all around the country.
In 2005 he appeared on ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes, where he starred as his other alter ego – Neil Diamond, singing Forever in Blue Jeans.
The Telegraph wrote a feature at the time when Dave made the show, and just before he made the final.
Dave said: “I’ve got a show called King of Diamonds, it’s a play on both their names.
“They’re both the same type of era and compliment each other. It’s an all American show with flags and everything.
“I’m the older Vegas Elvis, with typical white suit. I get more work like that – I do casinos like the Ricoh.
“It’s a bit of a retro thing – the flaired trousers. It’s quite cool for the kids – they love the Vegas style.”
